Our Green School committee were busy these past few weeks.
Global awareness surverys were given to the older classes by Emma and Lizzie - these will be done again next year and hopefully it will show better awareness of climate change. Questionnaires were also sent home to parents.
Darragh and Cody will be taking note of the electricity meter weekly to assess our usage.
Niamh, Ellen and Saoirse went around the whole school and did an audit of all the appliances and gadgets in the school that use electricity.
Ben and Charlie are working on keeping our notice board up to date. They have made a new title for it and will be adding to it as needed every week.
We need to come up with a new slogan for our current flag. Rian and Tadgh visited each classroom to explain why a slogan is needed and gave examples of previous ones used. Children can come up with one as a class, a group or individually. The best one will be voted on and used in our Green School campaign.
We will have children checking around the school at big break to make sure lights are turned off, doors closed and appliances that needn’t be left on are switched off.
Our bin monitors are busy every day also and are happy with how our bins are being used.
Finally a few children from sixth class along with some of our younger pupils went litter picking around the school on Friday. We hope to make this a more regular occurrence.
